Inside Doug's Head

It is never too late to become wise.

I think they have it exactly backwards. Instead of compulsive service for the youngest, they should compel the oldest to serve in the military.

The young are thinking optimistically about their future. The chicks they’ll bang, the times they’ll have. Old people already know that it’s a suckers game. The dice are rigged, the mortgage is infinite.

When I was younger, I was afraid of everything. Getting stabbed, getting caught, being sad and lonely in a faraway land. Now, older and less optimistic; meh, whatever. If it happens it happens. Death is a state that avoids taxes. For me.

Why forcibly recruit an 18 year old, who, if they survive combat, will require 60 years of PTSD and veteran medical support? Stupidly sacrificing the future for the now.

Recruiting old people, post 55 years old, makes a lot more sense. I don’t give a rat’s ass if I live or die past the next gas station encounter.

I’m not going to get sad because my wife is pregnant and my child is due any day now. All of my children have already been born, opened their eyes and said, “Fuck you, dad, and the bus who brought you here!”

Nope. Only old people should be forced to go to war. We probably caused it and we can best finish it. We hold the history within our hearts.

Also, please send my wife. She’s a real fighter.
