So, I am in New York this week to visit with my cardiologist. The appointment on Monday went well until we got to the part about liver enzymes and A1C numbers. Doctors have opinions on the daily limits of alcohol that people should consume, and these opinions do not converge with my own. He raised his eyebrows at me when I told him that I know I am supposed to drink two bottles of red wine a day, but sometimes I just can’t get that second bottle in.
Yes, I should lose some weight, it’s the only thing I haven’t been able to lose. Anyway, he tells me that I should try to cutback on carbohydrates in my diet, but I don’t know if he realizes that carbohydrates are essential ingredients in pizza, Yorkshire pudding, and focaccia bread. Ok, fine, I will stop with the beer and wine, but whiskey is medicine, even if I don’t have a prescription for it.
What’s the point in prolonging your life if, in order to do so, you have to remove ingredients that make life enjoyable? Life’s hard, and I don’t know if I can make it without ethanol and carbs.
